KMZ is a KML file packed into a zip, sometimes with pictures beside it. This page unzips it in the browser and draws the paths. A plain .kml file belongs on the KML viewer.

KMZ and KML

KMZ is the packed file. KML is the map inside it. If this page cannot read the zip, unzip it on your device and open the .kml file in the KML viewer.

Privacy

Your file never leaves your device. There is no upload and no account. Closing the tab drops the track from this page.

Questions

Does the KMZ file get uploaded?

No. The browser unzips and reads the file where it already is. GPS Toolset does not receive a copy.

What is the difference between KMZ and KML?

KML is the map file. KMZ is that file zipped, sometimes with pictures beside it. This page reads the KML inside the zip.

Are the pictures in the KMZ shown?

No. Pictures, network links, and ground overlays are skipped. The page draws the paths and the point placemarks.

The file will not open. What now?

Some zip compressions are not readable in every browser. Unzip the KMZ on your device and open the .kml file in the KML viewer.

Can I save it as GPX?

Yes. Export saves GPX, KML, KMZ, or CSV on this device. The GPX editor can change the track before you download.
